My blog has been boring me to death recently. While I am occasionally suicidal, death by blogging doesn’t strike me as the best way to go. It’s not just the posts—though all my posts read like I’ve read them before, which might be given the fact that I’ve written them—it’s the design that bugs me the most.
Inconveniently, my 365 project isn’t named What I Hated the Most—a choice I continuously regret as in that case I’d never run out of stuff to hatefully blog about. To fix the bug of change that has been nagging me, I went the Microsoft way—selling crap in a nice package—and I gave my blog a subtle makeover.
The changes will likely go unnoticed by anyone but me—this explains how come I’m always busy doing something but never produce anything substantial. On this blog, I changed the previously blue header to blue and the previously red link colour to red—why, yes, I spent several hours picking other shades of the same colours.
Under the hood, I submitted my (newly added) site logo (my dumb halfie aka half-face selfie) to some gentle cascading (as of CSS) to make the bastard (if you pardon my excited vocabulary) display not above the site title but next to it (by default the site logo seems to be a block element, so it doesn’t allow anything to be placed next to it).
Please notice that the previous paragraph consists of one monstrous sentence, indicating that I really am excited. I also changed the colours of the top (top navigation) and bottom of the page (site footer). Much nicer now. My OCD purrs happily. To further increase my pleasure, here’s my primitive (but working) code:
.site-logo-link { float: left; margin-right: 25px; width: 60px; height: 60px; } .site-footer { background-color: #44749d; } .top-nav { background: #cc2a41; }
Nice alignment! I like the image. 👍🏻😬

Why, thank you! Both my blog and my avatar needed a change. The result might not be ideal – but it’s a change! Yay 😉

Its interesting isn’t as to what motivates us to change. After about 2 1/2 years I changed the header on my blog for no other reason that I thought a change would be nice. For me the blog is a place for me to dump stuff I write and when and if I ever want it again I know where it is, as long as I can remember what i called it…lol….I have spend a lot of time trying to find pieces I wrote when I can’t recall what title I put on them……but I like the look of yours, to me it shows you care about the appearance and you are slowly revealing your face……have a great day/night….

You’re lucky not to be too restless when it comes to blogging matters. I’m always thinking of new things to try and I get bored staring at the same thing all the time. It’s a bit annoying – I wish I spent more time on the actual blogging!
It’s a great idea to use your blog as a dumping site for your writing, as you somewhat unflattering put it. It’s much better than stash your writings in your drawer.
Thanks for your positive feedback and have a fun day!

They say change is as good as a holiday, so happy holidays !!

Never heard of that but like it! I didn’t realise that by craving a change, I was actually craving holidays 😉

It’s strange to read this now: Tonight, I sat with the finger on the mouse … that close to hitting the Purchase button for the Atlas theme again. Just because I was bored with my blog (but I loved that theme). Instead I went back with Sapor, and saved a few bucks for now.
If you regret not going for the “what I hated the most”- theme, I’m grateful I didn’t go for a gratitude blog How about that, huh?! I’m filled with gratitude I didn’t go for a gratitude blog.
I noticed the red top bar right away. I’m particular to #527CD0 …

Change is in the air 😉 I think you infected me with your restlessness – blogging-wise, that is. I try to steer clear of paid themes because I never stick with one for more than a few months and the themes are not exactly cheap.
I’m grateful that you’re grateful that you didn’t go for a gratitude blog; and I’m also grateful I didn’t go for it myself – I must have been very drunk when the thought occurred. I’m an ungrateful brat. And I don’t even hate it 😮
I have noticed your preference for #527CD0 🙂 Perhaps you’re just like me – I keep on trying out different things, such as colours, only to invariably end up with my old favourites, such a red in this case.

I’m also grateful they have the 30 days, when you can change your mind! I’ve bought several, but always come back to my senses LOL. I never stick with them, and most often I find something that irks me about them.
If I’d decided to go for that gratitude thing, it wouldn’t have lasted — I would have caved after two weeks, at the most. And yes, the restlessness — in my ‘old life’, I used to move apartment. That was tiresome, physically … now, I don’t do that, of course, but I can always move blog or something 😂
Yes, it’s a favourite, and when it comes to some kind of red, I have #ca143c … it’s crimson. I think it’s partly laziness now, because I know them by heart, so sometimes I don’t bother finding any other.

Now that you mention moving homes, I was actually thinking the other day that it would be fun to move… Well, it wouldn’t be fun, but I miss the excitement of when I moved in more than a year ago and all the views were so new and fresh. It’s getting boring and I’m getting restless…
Ah, crimson red! Looks very red. I always end up with some version of red whenever I “design” something. I wonder if that makes me a communist.

There you go … you get it! 🙂 That’s exactly how I felt, and why I moved! It was so damned tiresome, and I felt almost allergic to banana boxes at times, but there was something else to it: I often believed everything would be so good in the new place … that I’d found the perfect flat.

A perfect flat / a perfect home is hard. In my country the idea is to own your home, unlike in the US, where more people rent. Of course you can rent here too, which is what I do, but rents are generally very high and you’re more or less at the mercy of your landlord. Should your landlord choose on a whim that s/he’s getting another tenant, there’s nothing you can do about it. You usually have a three-month period to move out, should your landlord terminate the contract – they don’t need to state a reason for contract termination.

Boy, your system certainly is very different! Especially different from Sweden! They have laws and regulations for everything. The tenants have so many rights. When it comes to North America, I guess it’s different, depending on where. The general idea is to own your home. And I think that’s more common here, if you’re single, than it is back home. Here in SJ, there are very few apartment complexes like ours. Maybe 5. Comparing that to my tiny little hometown … where there are oodles of them!

Yes, it’s just a different system. The trouble is that here you don’t rent from companies or developers, but from private owners. If you don’t like their conditions, your bad.

Eek! That, I wouldn’t like. The bigger, more anonymous landlord, the better.

Imagine my landlord lives across the street in a huge house. I can see right in his garden, since I’m on the top floor, and he can see me smoking on the terrace. I very much dislike this arrangement. Anonymous would be my preference too.

I’d hate that!!! Arghh … Even worse would be to rent in a house where the landlord lives, himself! I’d be very hard put to do that!

That put things into perspective – it surely would be even worse if my landlord lived in the very same building.

Imagine when they start to make comments about one’s smoking, or how much water one uses! I wouldn’t last a week.

I should be probably glad that my discomfort lies only in having to see my landlord and landlady in their speedo and bikini respectively getting some tan in the garden…

Yes. It can always be worse, even though often, one tends to think it can’t.

Awe, thank you! I’ve had my previous mouse avatar for five months, which was longer than I could possibly endure. I get bored with myself easily 😮 Now that I’ve made some changes I’m temporarily at peace – I hope the peace will last for another few months.

I like the change of colours. Reminds me of the Czech flag 🙂

I’m glad you like! It was actually partly my intention, to use the Czech colours – that, and the fact that I really like red and blue – though it’s a bit downplayed by the fact that we share our national colours with about every other country. Like Britain and the USA…

I really like that picture you’re using now. I think it’s really beautiful.
Now that I’m on holiday and intend to read more and start blogging once again, I want to bring some change to my blog. But I’ve forgotten even the basic stuffs about coding!
It’s true it’s very reminiscent of your country’s colours.

Awe, thank you for hating my new avatar the least 😉 One does forget things when one doesn’t use them for a while. It’s disappointing. I’m learning, forgetting and re-learning HTML and CSS all the time. I’ll be eagerly waiting for what you’ll do with your blog now that you have more leisure for blogging!
