What I Hated the Least Today 65/365: Cascades

  1. Yeah, I agree with John — you write good shit! I wouldn’t touch .PHP with a five foot pole … I’ve only copied and pasted.

I don’t know what the cascading part really means, but I have an idea … in the beginning [before CSS], the HTML code had to be written in every damned page … with CSS you have a separate stylesheet and it ‘cascades’ out over the whole site … Now, I don’t _know_ this, but it’s what I’ve always thought/guessed.

    1. Awe, thank you for indulging me! I didn´t of course write PHP, I wasn´t feeling suicidal at the moment, but I find the copying and pasting challenging enough. Your explanation of CSS sounds plausible. It seems to agree with my teacher´s “falling shit” definition. I shall never get the cascading shit out of my head now…

  2. I for one am grateful for your tech posts, Mara. Your last one inspired me to teach myself basic HTML and design a webpage for my poems, which I feel is pretty impressive for someone who lived most of his life blithely unaware even of the existence of geeks or nerds. CSS is beyond me though. There comes a point with tech where the more elderly brain is stumped. What I am really interested in however is using hypertext as an alternative support for poetry that significantly changes the nature of the contente and the way it is written. Do you have any ideas on this?
